Rondal “Ron” Mull, 84, of Morganton died Wednesday, May 21, 2015 after a brief illness. Born in Burke County, NC on September 17, 1930, he was the son of the late Foster Franklin Mull and Hazel Brown Mull. Ron was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he taught in the Aldersgate Sunday school class and served on numerous committees. He retired from Drexel Knitting Mills as vice president of sales after 35 years of service. Ron was the 1994 Drexel Citizen of the Year and was a founding member of the History Museum of Burke County, where he also served on the Board of Directors. He was also a founding member of Christ United Methodist Church. He was a published author, avid golfer, gardener, woodworker, and most of all loved his family.
Ron is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mable Meeks Mull; daughters, Lynne McCarthy and her husband, Mike, of Roswell, GA, Susan Ellis and her husband, Dr. W. DeWitt Ellis of High Point, NC, and Janet Crump and her husband, Ronnie, of Morganton; grandchildren, Ben Allen, Caitlin McCarthy, Brian McCarthy, Chase Ellis and his wife, Jessica, Dr. Spencer Ellis, Stuart Ellis, and Casey Crump; a great-granddaughter, Peyton Ellis; a brother, Bill K. Mull and his wife, Mary, of Drexel, NC; and a sister, Mickey Cook of Orlando, FL.
In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Dr. James Cook.
The celebration of Ron’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 25, 2015 at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. John Fowler officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
