Roy Alexander Chester

Roy Alexander Chester, 67, died unexpectedly, Friday, November 6, 2009. He was born in Burke County on April 1, 1942 and was a son of the late Roby Lawrence Chester and Mary Emma Whisnant Chester. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen Fox.Roy graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1960 and attended Kings Business College in Charlotte, NC. He was in furniture sales all of his adult life and was currently employed with Ashley Furniture in Hickory. Roy was a faithful member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church, and will be sorely missed by his family and by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Ruby Royal Chester; a son and his wife, Larry and Leanna Chester, of Charlotte; a daughter and her husband, Lisa and Denny Schroeder, of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Logan, Loren, and Lyndsay Chester all of Charlotte; brothers, R. L. Chester of Morganton and Ervin Chester of Conover; and by sisters, Jean Calvin, Iris Fox, and Lillie Bennett, all of Morganton.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, November 9, 2009 at Oak Hill United Methodist Church with the Reverends Mark Denton and David Hobson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends following the committal service at the cemetery.
