Roy Earl Lookadoo

Roy Earl Lookadoo, 78, was called home Tuesday evening, September 24, 2013. He was born June 19, 1935 in Hickory, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Garth and Lillian Fortner.He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sherry Broyles of the home, 4 children: The Rev. David G. Lookadoo and wife Cathy of New London, NC, Joseph (Scott) Lookadoo and wife Pam of Morganton NC, Russell W. Lookadoo and wife Tanya of Lehi, Utah and Alison L. Falls and husband Michael of Farmington, NC. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.Roy attended NCSU (NC State College) and retired from Burke County Social Services as a IV-D child support enforcement agent.He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Morganton. Roy loved his church, teaching Sunday school, serving as a trustee and held various other positions.Roy loved scouting and was active from Cub Scout leader through Commissioner of Boy Scouts. He found great joy working with the bicycle program in support of Christmas Cheer.A celebration of Roy’s life will be held at 2pm, Saturday September 28 at First United Methodist Church with The Reverend Dr. John W. Fowler and The Reverend Laura Elliot officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1-2pm prior to the service.A family graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Hickory NC.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 200 N. King Street, Morganton, NC 28655.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
