Roy George Bartlett, Jr., 91, of Hazel St., Valdese, NC, died Monday, August 04, 2008 at College Pines Nursing Center, Valdese, following a period of declining health. Born in Wheaton, IL, he was a son of the late Roy George Bartlett, Sr. and Laura Estella Guild Bartlett. During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater of War with the U. S. Coast Guard as a machinist mate. He was an employee of the Pullman Company for thirty six years and retired from the First National Bank of Chicago following twelve years of employment. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Morganton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert E. Bartlett.Surviving are his wife, Elsie Newcomer Bartlett of the home; a son, Roy George Bartlett, III, and his wife, Jurine of Downers Grove, IL; a daughter, Elsie Jane Bartlett of Valdese; a sister, Helen M. Bartlett of Wheaton, IL; and nephews, Robert Bartlett of Oak Park, IL, and Larry Bartlett of the Washington, D.C. area.The memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church, Morganton, NC with the Rev. Michael R. Bailey officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the church parlor.
