Roy Junior York

Roy Junior York, 75 of Morganton, NC died unexpectedly Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Grace Hospital. Born in Caldwell County, NC on November 16, 1935, he was a son of the late Tilden McClure York and Ada Raven Buff York. Roy was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather and was an avid gardener. He enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. Mr. York served in the N. C. National Guard and was a retired employee of the N. C. Department of Corrections with over thirty years of service. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Morganton.He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Geneva Main York of the home; a daughter, Sharon York of Drexel; granddaughter, Amber Halliburton and husband, Jimmy of Morganton; a brother, Gary York of Drexel; and a sister, Edna Jackson of Morganton.In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by two brothers.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 13, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Brother Jeff Lovitt officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday one hour prior to the funeral. At other times, the family will be at the residence, 1545 Amherst Rd., Morganton.
