Roy Lee Denton

Roy Lee Denton, 78, of Nebo, NC went to be with Jesus on Friday, January 10, 2014 after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Burke County, NC on November 20, 1935, he was the son of the late Alonzo Denton and Artie Louise Watson Denton. Roy was raised in the Baptist faith and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He had worked for Pontiac GM and several local furniture plants including, Hendredon, Marimont, and E.J. Victor. Roy enjoyed life, music, golf, fishing, and gardening.Mr. Denton is survived by his wife of 37 years, Linda Sue Causby Denton of the home; a son, Tommy Lee Denton and his wife, Debra, of Morganton; daughters, Donna Buchanan and her husband, Scott, of Connelly Springs, NC and Debra Denton of Morganton; grandchildren, Jonathan Denton and his wife, Heather, Chris Denton and his wife, Katie, and Alisha Denton; a brother, James Horris Denton; a sister, Lucille Myers; and a number of nephews and nieces.In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his first wife, Judy White; a daughter, Rebecca Dawn Benfield; brothers, Ernest Smith, Joe Smith-Denton, Perry Smith, Will Smith, and John Denton; and a sister, Rosa Lee Denton.The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 13, 2014 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Dr. Dewey Thomas and the Rev. Walker Tony officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the N. C. National Guard. The family will receive friends on Monday at the church from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
