Roy Leonard Smith

Roy Leonard Smith, 89, of Morganton, NC went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 24, 2017 at his residence. Born in Mitchell County, NC on December 17, 1927, he was a son of the late Clifton Smith and Ida Grindstaff Smith.
Roy was a devoted husband and father. He was a WWII Veteran of the United States Army. He loved fishing, Nascar, and Atlanta Braves baseball and was a member of Silver Creek Baptist Church.
Left to cherish Roy’s memory are his wife, Pearl Smith of the home; daughter, Barbara Downs and husband, Billy Joe of Casar; numerous nephews and nieces; and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by brothers, Howard, Earsel, and Frank Smith.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 27 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 28 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
