Roy Lynn Smith

Roy Lynn Smith, 78, of Morganton, NC died Tuesday, April 1, 2014. Born September 28, 1935 in Burke County, NC, he was a son of the late Charles Manuel Smith, Sr. and Mary Brown Smith. Roy was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He was employed for many years in the textiles industry, and was an avid fisherman. Roy was a devout member of Conley Road Pentecostal Holiness Church, and loved spreading the word of the Lord.He is survived by his wife, Linda Clark Smith of the home; children, Teresa Smith of Morganton, Kathy Smith and Frank Cooper of Morganton, Pam Moody of Bridgeton, ME, Joe Beck of Morganton, Holly Hanley of Valdese, and Jason Beck of Morganton; grandchildren, Amy Smith, Misty Garland and husband, Ritchie, Natasha Moore, Briana Moore, Lindsey Skipper, Matoska Russell, Ravin Russell, Ian Beck, Tara Beck, and Garret Hanley; great-grandchildren, Diamond Garland, Noah Smith, Ava Williams, Jackson "Jack Jack" Beck, Sizmon Lee, Mesha Lee, Jordan Garland, Jake Garland, and Joy Garland; a great-great-grandchild, Skylar Garland; a sister, Pauline King of Chattanooga, TN; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by a son, Mickey Smith; brothers, Junior and Arnold Gene Smith; and sisters, Ada Wyatt, Juanita Brittain, Mildred Smith, and Clara Rhoney.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 4, 2014 at Conley Road Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Bill Rice officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday at the church one hour before the funeral service.
