Ruby Bumgarner Clontz

Ruby Bumgarner Clontz, 86, of Drexel, NC passed away peacefully in the arms of her eldest daughter on Monday, May 9, 2022.  Ruby was a member of Mount Home Baptist Church since 1986. She taught Sunday School and was a member of the WMU. Ruby graduated from Drexel High School Class of 1955. She was a member of the Beta Club, Student Council and high school band, playing several instruments. She loved to garden and can, and also loved to travel and fish. Before retiring, she worked as a PreK Assistant and substitute teacher for Burke County Public Schools.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Thomas “Gerald” Clontz; four brothers and five sisters.

Ruby is survived by her daughters, Iris Toner (Jim), Cindy Herron (Wayne) and April Gamble (John David); grandchildren, Trent Toner (Sheri), Chelsey Taylor (Travis), Madeline Herron and Grant Gamble; great-grandchildren, Jameson Toner, Finley Toner and Ibie Taylor.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm-2:00pm on Friday, May 13, 2022 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The service will follow at 2:00pm in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Jerry Gamble officiating. There will be a private cryptside service at Burke Memorial Park.
