Ruby Elizabeth Benfield

Ruby Elizabeth Benfield, 90, of Rutherfordton, NC died Sunday, November 27, 2016. She was born on September 14, 1926 in Burke County, NC and was the daughter of the late Jacob Lee Benfield and Martha “Mattie” Elizabeth Whisenant Powell Benfield. Ruby was retired from Henredon Furniture after several years at Skyline Textiles. She was a lifetime member of Zion Baptist Church. Ruby was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an avid gardener.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by son, Ronald “Toby” Eugene Benfield; siblings, Corlie Commodore Powell, Martha “Lois” Powell Stamey, Clora Belle Powell Cook Smith, Vera McLara Benfield Webb, Noah “Gan” Jacob Benfield, Mary Sue Benfield Webb, Carrie Lee Benfield Cannon, Grace “Irene” Virginia Benfield Watson, Forrest Ray Benfield, Bessie Mae Benfield Powell Carver, and Nancy “Babe” Louise Benfield.
Ruby is survived by son, Donald “Don” Wayne Benfield, Sr. and special niece who is like a daughter, Carolyn Benfield Waycaster of TN; grandchildren, Donald “Donnie” Wayne Benfield, Jr., Douglas Eugene Benfield, Davina Benfield Evans, April Dawn Elizabeth Benfield, and William David Brian Benfield; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Zion Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church with Reverends Steve Parker and Keith Rose officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Baptist Church, 3394 Pea Ridge Rd., Morganton, NC 28655 or to a memorial of one’s choice.
