Ruby Etta Burns Speigle

Ruby Etta Burns Speigle, 90, of 115 23rd Street, NW, of Hickory, NC, died Monday, September 25, 2006 at Carolina Rehab following a period of declining health. Born July 9th, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Sylvester Horace Burns and Minnie Brown Burns. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Loy Speigle; five brothers, Worth, Ras, Paul, Ted, and Cecil Burns; one sister, Hazel Burns; and a step-daughter, Shirley Koo. Ruby was a member of the Catawba Valley Church of Christ, Hickory, NC.

She is survived by her son, James Farrell Speigle and wife, Marsha, of Knoxville, TN; a daughter, Myra Hill and husband, Jerry, of Hickory; two step-daughters, Jean Creel of Maiden, NC and Carolyn Walker of Jonesboro, GA; a sister, Pearl Homan of Denver, CO; four grandchildren, one step-grandson, five great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 27th, 2006 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Ministers Tony Forrest and Nelson Brockenborough officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the residence of the daughter, Myra Hill, in Hickory.
