Ruby Joe Daves Clodfelter, 111, of Morganton, NC, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016. Born in McDowell County, NC on July 26, 1905, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Daves and Lucy Roena Landis Daves. Ruby was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, NC. She participated in the New England Centenarian Study of Boston Medical Center and graduated to their Supercentenarian Study when she reached 110 years old. On her birthday this year she was the oldest living person in North Carolina and the 16th oldest person in the United States. Ruby loved NASCAR and was Tony Stewart’s oldest fan.
Mrs. Clodfelter is survived by her nieces and nephews: Doris Benfield Lefevers and husband, Ned, of Morganton; Don McCall and wife, Maxine, of Drexel, NC; Jim Haigler and wife, Loetta, of Murrells Inlet, SC; Bobby Daves of Morehead City, NC; and Ginger Chapman and husband, John, of West Jefferson, NC; a number of great and great-great-nieces and nephews; and her adopted family at Grace Ridge Retirement Center.
In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Barney B. Clodfelter; siblings Guy Daves, Addie Benfield, Edna McCall, Paul Daves, Roena Haigler, and Robert Daves; and a niece, Wanda Haigler Littlejohn.
A service of remembrance for Ruby will be held at 2 pm, Friday, November 25, 2016, in the Ervin Community Room at Grace Ridge. A graveside service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, November 26, 2016, at Shady Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Winston-Salem, NC.
