Ruby Nell Scott Powell

Ruby Nell Scott Powell, of Glen Alpine, NC passed away Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the Burke Palliative Care Center. Born in Burke County, NC on May 18, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Payton Mack Scott and Jennie Ross Scott. Nell attended Glen Alpine United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir and played the piano. She was a homemaker who loved her family and community.Nell is survived by her husband of 60 years, Paul W. Powell of the home; a son, Alan Powell and wife, Janice, of Morganton; a daughter, Paula Crump and husband, Doug, of Morganton; grandchildren, Hollee Hord and Darren Hord, both of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Lois Lail of Glen Alpine; eight nephews; and six nieces.

In addition to her parents, Nell was preceded in death by her brothers, Clifford, Phil, and LeeRoy Scott; and a sister, Christine S. Dale.The funeral will be held at 5:00 p.m., Monday, July 18, 2011 at Glen Alpine United Methodist Church with Reverends David J. Duncan and Boyd Biggerstaff officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Alpine Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
