Ruby Verlene Russ

Ruby Verlene Russ, 94, died Monday, July 2, 2012. She was born in Cleveland County on January 7, 1918 and was a daughter of the late Lemuel Zero Johnson and Hester Elizabeth Owens Johnson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Russ was preceded in death by her first husband, William Lee Russ; second husband, Harley Walker; third husband, Wallace Carroll; her daughter, Shirley Williams, a sister, Bessie Huntsinger; and by a great-grandson, Wesley Russ. Mrs. Russ was a member of Central Baptist Church. She had a great devotion to her family and friends, Mrs. Russ enjoyed traveling and had a love for country music.She is survived by sons and their wives, John and Katie Russ and Jack and Ailene Russ, all of Morganton; daughter and her husband, Joyce and Donald Brittain of Valdese; sister, Hattie Brady; sister-in-law, Edna Russ; son-in-law, Richard Williams; ten grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Heather Kilbourne officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
