Russell L. Wilson

Russell L. Wilson, 91, of Morganton died Friday, August 21, 2009 at Burke Palliative Care Center in Valdese following a period of declining health. He was born May 2, 1918 in Burke Co., and was a son of the late Marcus Wilson and Sarah Elizabeth "Bessie" Mace Wilson. Russell attended Burke Community Bible Church.He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Jim Whitener of Albemarle, NC; brothers, Roy and Clarence Wilson, both of Morganton; a sister, Hazel Smith of Hickory; and a dear friend, Keith Norman of Morganton.In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae; brothers, Walter, Chester, and James Wilson; and a sister, Agnes Johnson.Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Burke Memorial Park with Chaplain Ted Swann officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home.
