Ruth Adalee Thompson Brown of the Oak Hill Community, Morganton, NC passed away Monday, June 29, 2015.  She was eighty-nine years old.  Mrs. Brown was born in Murphy, NC on March 9, 1926.  She was the fourth of ten children born to the late Columbus Stevenson and Bertha Mae Green Thompson.  In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, William Calvin Brown; brothers, Obera Thompson of Murphy and Otis Thompson of Morganton; and siblings that passed as little children, a brother Audrey, and sisters, Irene and Alice.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her loving and devoted family: a son, Steven Brown and wife, Fonda, of Morganton; a daughter, Patricia Reavis and husband, Lonnie, of Drexel, NC; a beautiful granddaughter, Kimberly Brown and husband, Keenan, of Morganton; her precious great-grandchildren, Kendell Brown and wife, Brittney, of Williston, ND, Kendrick Brown and Kierre Brown of Morganton; step-granddaughters, Shannon and husband, Kenneth King of Morganton and Shawn Reavis; sisters, Arzella Clark and husband, Bruce, and Iramae Moss, all of Morganton; brothers, David Thompson and wife, Frankie, of Morganton and Willis Thompson and wife, Novella, of Aurora, OH; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends.

When Mrs. Brown first came to Morganton from Murphy, she worked at the state hospital now known as Broughton.  She married and quit secular work to have her children and get them started in school.  Afterward she worked at Valdese Manufacturing, Skyland Textile, and last at Henredon Furniture, from which she retired.

Mrs. Brown was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and attended the North Morganton Congregation.  She rested her hope in the Bible’s promise of the resurrection to life on a paradise Earth.  Mrs. Brown dearly loved and cared for her family and her realm of spiritual brothers and sisters.

The family sincerely appreciates all those who came into and touched Ruth’s life.  Whether it was through visits, calls, or cards, your love and support will always be remembered.  A special thank you to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care staff for your genuine concern and loving care, you are truly the best and we will forever be grateful.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 3, 2015 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with Gene Lail and Leonard West officiating. Burial will follow at the Jehovah's Witness Cemetery on US Hwy 64 with graveside rites.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
