Ruth Ann Lewis Epley

Ruth Ann Lewis Epley, 68, of Morganton, NC died Monday, August 29, 2011 at the Burke Palliative Care Center following a brief illness. Born in McDowell County, NC on December 3, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Lewis and Alda Randolph Lewis. Ruth was of the Baptist Faith. A loving mother and grandmother, she enjoyed spending time with her family.Ruth is survived by her sons, Chris Crain and wife, Tara, of Aynor, SC and Randy D. Crain of Morganton; daughters, Nancy Piercy and husband, Johnny, Jr., of Morganton and Brandy Miller and husband, Don, of Scotland; a brother, David Lewis and wife, Nellie of Morganton; a sister, Brenda Johnson of Morganton; eighteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; an aunt, Ruth Duncan of Morganton; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a daughter, Phala Ballard; two great-grandsons, Jayden Peyton and Thomas Miller; a brother, Harold Lewis; a special companion, Scott Rogers; and a daughter-in-law, Sandra Crain.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Carswell Memorial Baptist Church with Reverends Jeff Boone and J. C. Bradley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with final expenses.
