Ruth Cheney Hogshead

Ruth Cheney Hogshead, 93, of West Park Drive, Morganton, NC died Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Grace Hospital. Born in Morgan, GA on October 11, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Clifford William Cheney and Tete Weaver Cheney. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Ralph Hogshead, Jr.; brothers, Frank Cheney of Macon, GA, John Cheney of Morgan, GA and Jack Cheney of Greenwood, SC; and sisters, Edith Ragan and Frances Jenkins both of Albany, GA, and Helen Strickland of Morgan.Ruth worked in civil service at Turner Field in Albany, Georgia during World War II where she met her husband, Ralph. Mrs. Hogshead was a member of First Baptist Church where she served as a deacon and was a member of the Annie Walker Sunday School Class. She was a charter member of the Grace Hospital Guild and served as a Pink Lady for 39 years.Ruth is survived by her son, Charles Ralph Hogshead and his wife, Jeanine Marie Hogshead, of Tulsa, OK; and daughter, Judith Anne Jordan and her husband, Paul Vernon Jordan, of Winston-Salem, NC.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Music Memorial Fund, P.O.
