Ruth Franklin Singleton, 79, of East View Street, Morganton, NC, died Friday, September 15, 2006 at Grace Hospital following a period of declining health. Born December 2, 1926, in Burke County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Minnie Franklin. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Clifford Jack Singleton; a brother, Paul Franklin; a sister-in-law, Dorothy McNeely Simpson; and a brother-in-law, James Dula. Mrs. Singleton was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Children’s Sunday School. She was a former employee of the Sara Lee Corporation and Morganton Dyeing and Finishing.
Mrs. Singleton is survived by her sons, Thomas S. Beach and wife, Linda, of Charleston, SC, and Charles C. Singleton and wife, Sandy, of Morganton; six grandchildren, Matt McClain and wife, Kathleen, Adam Beach, Thomasina Beach Kitchen & husband, Brian, Andy Beach, Cheryl Singleton, and Chris Singleton; two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Jacob Kitchen; a sister, Hazel Franklin Dula of Morganton; and a sister-in-law, Trudy Williams Franklin.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 23, 2006 in Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. Max Baker officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. At other times the family will be at her residence on Friday & Saturday, 305 East View Street, Morganton. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
