Ruth H. Snipes

Ruth H. Snipes, 75, of Skyland Drive, Morganton, NC, died Friday, December 22, 2006 at the Palliative Care Center in Valdese, NC following a period of declining health. She was born in Burke County, NC on October 2, 1931 was a daughter of Cleo Hoffman Hildebran of Morganton and the late Murphy Martin. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Jo Snipes. Ruth was a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College and later taught at their School of Nursing for four years. She also worked at Grace Hospital for a short period of time. Prior to her graduation from Lenoir-Rhyne she worked for Dr. Reece in the Pathology Department at Grace Hospital as a cytologist. Ruth was also a member of Mt. Home Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother, Mrs. Snipes is survived by her former husband, Vernon L. Snipes of Morganton; a son, Martin Snipes and his wife, Martha, of Morganton; two brothers, Hal and Charley Martin, both of Burke County; two sisters, Jane Simmons and Nelda Lambert, both of Morganton; and three grandchildren, Martin Kelly Snipes, Amber Fox, and Patrick Snipes, all of Morganton.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 26, 2006 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Home Baptist Church Building Fund, 2272 Mt.
