Ruth Harris

Ruth Harris, 80, of Morganton, NC died Monday, October 19, 2009 at the Brian Center of Viewmont following a period of declining health. She was born February 18, 1929 in Rutherford County, NC, and was a daughter of the late John Motin Fortenberry and Susan Catherine Hoyle Fortenberry. Ruth attended Morganton First Freewill Baptist Church, and had worked as a waitress in the cafeteria at Roses Department Store for 16 years.She is survived by sisters, Lillie Buff of Morganton, Mary Martin of Vale, and Selma Ledford of Conover, and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard "Jock" Harris; a sister, Pearl Hamby; and brothers-in-laws, Oren Buff, Cecil Hamby, and France Martin.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, October 22, 2009 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday one hour before the service at Sossoman Funeral Home.
