Ruth Johnson Whisnant

Ruth Johnson Whisnant, 81, of Morganton, NC went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 15, 2015.  Born in Burke County, NC on August 15, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Garland Joseph Johnson and Zena Young Johnson.  She was a beloved mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.  Ruth was a devoted member of Burkemont Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, worked in the nursery, and was an avid member of the Young at Hearts.  Ruth retired from J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center after 23 years of service and 13 years of part-time work.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Whisnant Harding and her fiancé, Brad Link, of Valdese, NC; grandchildren, Amanda Jackson and Dalton Jackson and his wife, Alyssa; a sister, Naomi Johnson Sigmon; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Bona Whisnant; an infant son, Ernest Truitt Whisnant; and three brothers, Garland Manuel Johnson, Paul Willard Johnson, and James Johnson.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 19, 2015 at Burkemont Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Pridgen, Dr. David Mills, and the Rev. Eddy Bunton officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
