Ruth Mull Metcalf

Ruth Mull Metcalf, 78, of Sol Mull Street, Morganton, NC died Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at her residence following a period of declining health. She was born in Burke County on August 11, 1932 and was the daughter of the late Solomon Bland Mull and Timmie Mae Smith Mull. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Roger Clark Metcalf; sisters, Geneva Hildebrand, Mildred Lambert, Ruby Bond and Nancy Mull. Ruth was a member of Mountain View #2 Baptist Church where her father Sol was a founding member.. She was a retired employee of Western Carolina Center and was an avid gardner, cook, and seamstress. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.Surviving are her husband of 62 years., Joe F. Metcalf of the home; children, Gloria M. Boyd and husband, Ralph, Ricky J. Metcalf, Teresa A. Metcalf; granddaughter, Stephanie Boyd Price and husband, Eric all of Morganton; Great grandson, Trent Price; a number of nieces and nephews; her faithful feline companion, Charlie and a special family dog, Princess.Funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, April 15, 2011 at Mountain View #2 Baptist Church with Reverends Kenneth Mashburn and Burl Sain officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Sossoman Funeral Home & Crematory Center.
