Ruth Powell Huffman

Ruth Powell Huffman, 94, of Valdese passed away Monday, October 9, 2017.  Born in Burke County, NC on July 7, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Edward Theodore Powell and Bunie Powell Powell.  Ruth was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt who was very much devoted to her family and church.

Ruth is survived by her son, Stephen Huffman and wife, Janice, of Valdese; daughter, Sharron Wilson of Valdese; grandchildren, Danna Wilson, Todd Huffman and wife, Jackie, Meghan Wilson, and Brian Huffman and wife, Cherie; great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Kaylee, and Payton Huffman; and a sister, Ollie Browning of Valdese.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde E. “Gordy” Huffman; 6 brothers, Lloyd, Asheworth, Albert, Wilson, Kirby, and Ralph Powell; and 3 sisters, Neva Warlick, Olivia Cobb, and Ellie Spencer.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Christ United Methodist Church.  The memorial service will follow at 12 p.m. in the church with the Revs. Cindy Wechter, Lonnie Brown, and Douglas E. Hochmuth officiating.  A private cryptside service will be held at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum.  At other times the family will be at Stephen’s home on Messer Road, Valdese.
