Ruth Reed, 81, of Morganton, NC, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2025.

Born in Avery County, NC on October 10, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Charles William Turbyfill and Okie Darnell Turbyfill.

Ruth attended Burkemont Baptist Church for many years and was a former Sunday school teacher. She worked at Case Farms and retired from Drexel Heritage Plant 3 & 5. Ruth also babysat everyone’s children.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, David Lee Reed (Stella) and Charles Alan Reed (Kim); daughter, Melissa Gwyn (Keith); grandchildren, John David Reed (Ashley), Justin Reed (Taylor), Levi Horney (Erika), Jesse Horney (Jennifer), Bethany Reed, Matt Moretz, and Aaliyah Rudisill; great-grandchildren, Conner, Madison, Daisy, Nathan, Lincoln, Emery, Kolbie, Charlotte, and Maci; brother, Wayne Turbyfill (Sue); sisters, Mildred White, Lola Turbyfill, and Hursley Turbyfill; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Terry Moses, Lester Leizer, and Alton Clark.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by five brothers, Ivan, Roger, Ronald, Charles, and Edward Turbyfill; long-time companion, Gordan Chapman; and special friend, Joan Chapman.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Friday, March 28, 2025 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Luke Gwyn officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Ruth was a big part of my child hood growing up! She loved all of the kids around the neighborhood and always told us she loved us. She will greatly be missed. Heaven just got sweeter
