Ruth Smith

Ruth Smith, 96, of Morganton passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020.  Ruth was a devoted member of Burkemont Baptist Church where she served in various roles.  She was a former member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she served in many capacities, including organist.  After her retirement from Shadowline, he enjoyed being a foster grandparent at J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Suzette Smith and Olivia Christine Smith; sister, Inez Jenkins; sister-in-law, Darlene Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph B. Lovelace and Arrie Wright Lovelace; husband, Lawrence Cordell Smith; brothers, Bonnie, Bertchel, Walter, James, and Flay Lovelace; and sisters, Macie Jenkins, Blanche Biggerstaff, and Georgie Daves.

The memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Burkemont Baptist Church with Dr. Eddy Bunton and Lou Lovelace officiating.  The family will greet friends following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690 or to Burkemont Baptist Church, 4668 Burkemont Road, Morganton, NC 28655.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the staff of Morganton Long Term Care and Burke Hospice and Palliative Care for their compassionate care of Mrs. Smith.
