Ruth Smith Slovak, 85 of Chesterfield Adult Care Home on Pax Hill Rd., Morganton, NC died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC. Born September 11, 1924 in Burke County, NC, she was a daughter of the late John Bunyan Smith and Bessie Tallant Smith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Steven Slovak; a daughter, Ruth E. Slovak; brothers, Brantley, Bob, and Donald Smith; and a sister, Annie Keever.Surviving are her daughter, Joyce Slovak Mahoney of Tennessee; granddaughters, Melanie and Danica Berkel; a great granddaughter, Jada Mahoney; and a brother, Ted Whisnant of Drexel, NC.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2010 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Rev.
