Ruth Whittington Ollis

Ruth Whittington Ollis, 88, of Drexel, NC died Sunday, November 25, 2012. Born in Avery County, NC on March 31, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Stanford Whittington and Elizabeth Bennett Whittington. Ruth was a foster-grandmother at J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center for 8 years, and she loved to fish.A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, she is survived by her sons, Mackie Ollis Of Morganton, Mickey Ollis of Lenoir, NC, and Robert Rose and his wife, Debra, of Morganton; a daughter, Donna Franklin of Spartanburg, SC; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Myrtle Barrier of Jonas Ridge, NC.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Garfield Rose; a son, Jimmy Allen Rose; a daughter, Linda Ollis; and eight brothers and sisters.Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Jonas Ridge Cemetery with Chaplain Mike Costner officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.
