Sam Tilley

Sam Tilley, 79, went to his Heavenly Home, Sunday, November 11, 2012 at his residence. Born September 23, 1933 in Caldwell County, NC, he was a son of the late Garland Carswell and Effie Tilley. Sam was a devoted Christian and member of Silver Creek Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of Burke Yarns. His hobbies included gardening, fishing, and hunting.He is survived by his wife, Edna Hudson Tilley of the home; daughters, Carolyn Smith and husband, Brian, and Christy Greene and husband, Clay, all of Morganton; sisters, Betty Church and Shirley Robbins, both of Morganton; grandchildren, Caleb Greene, Chelsea Greene, and Amanda Allman and husband, Ben; two nieces; and three nephews.In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Brown; a great-granddaughter, Madison Nicole Brown; and a brother, Bill Garland Tilley.Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Silver Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Freddie Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:30 pm Tuesday at the church. At other times, the family will be the residence on US 70 West. Memorial contributions may be made to Silver Creek Baptist Church, 4504 Silver Creek Church Rd., Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with arrangements.
