Sandra Lane Smith, 73, of Hildebran passed away on Friday, December 21, 2018. Born in Burke County, NC on September 25, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Fritz Alexander Lane and Jessie “Martha” Whisenant Lane. Sandra was a member of First Baptist Church in Hildebran where she had worked in the nursery. She retired from Burke County Emergency Services in 1997 and then worked for NC Emergency Services for 10 years, retiring in 2007. She was a volunteer fire fighter and first responder for Brendletown Fire Department for over 10 years.
Sandra is survived by her husband of 50 years, Michael R. Smith of the home; daughter, Brenda Smith Moser (Greg) of Hickory; grandchildren, Keri Johnson and Aja Moser; and a brother, Fred Lane (Jean) of Morganton.
In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Bill and Carl Lane; and a sister, Louise Abernathy.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, December 23, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Hildebran. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the church with Rev. Ron Arndt officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum.
