Sara Powell Freeman

Sara Powell Freeman, 85, of Goodman Lake Road, Morganton, NC passed away Friday, July 9, 2010. Born in Burke County, NC on June 4, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Lewis A. Powell and Lessie Whisnant Powell. Sara was a member of Zion Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, was a former WMU director, and was the circle chairwoman. She worked at Morganton Hosiery Mill, which later changed to Premier, and retired from Henredon Furniture Company.Sara is survived by her brothers, Robert "Bob" Powell and wife, Huse, of Morganton, retired Col. Ralph J. Powell and wife, Julie, of Savannah, GA, and Charles "Ed" powell and wife, Jane, of Morganton; sisters, Mildred Powell and husband, Paul, Nell Cuthbertson and husband, Dick, and Ruby Carswell, all of Morganton; sisters-in-law, Nancy Powell and Betty Quave; a number of nephews and nieces; and an extended family.In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Freeman; a brother, Albert Powell; and a sister, Ethel McGee.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 11, 2010 at Zion Baptist Church with Reverends Steve Parker and David Orders officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
