Sarah Elizabeth "Lib" Burnette, 94, of Morganton went to her heavenly home, on July 8, 2018. Born September 5, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Marvin T. Duckworth and Sarah Self Duckworth. Lib was born and raised in Burke County.
Mrs. Burnette was a lifelong member of Hopewell Baptist Church. She was a stay at home wife and mother. Lib enjoyed time with her family, gardening, tending to her flowers, watching the Braves, church league games, and all sporting and school activities of her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Dean Burnette; son-in-law, Sanford Norman; sisters; Ethel D. Smith, Annie D. Benton, Minnie D. Duckworth, Geneva D. Hart, and Sue D. Stamey; and brothers, James L. Duckworth and M.T Duckworth.
Mrs. Burnette leaves behind her husband of 76 years, Fritz Burnette; children, Carolyn Norman, Kenneth Burnette (Sybil), Evelyn Barnhardt (Michael), Richard "Dickie" Burnette (Robin), Nancy Leonard (Johnny), Sandra Benfield (Donnie), and Roger Burnette (Julie); daughter-in-law Betty Burnette; grandchildren, Felicia Austin, Gary Norman, Dana Sisk, Angie Smith, Laura Johnson, Adrienne Rich, Tyler Barnhardt, Michael Barnhardt, II, Angela Cole, Brandon Burnette, Brooke Walker, Tamara Hensley, Beth Buckner, Amanda Waters, Steve Brittain, Philip Brittain, Remington Burnette, Laela Burnette, Haley Burnette; thirty great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2018 in the Hopewell Baptist Church Youth Center. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the church sanctuary with the Dr. Danny Emory officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
