Sarah Melton Rockett Seagle

Sarah Melton Rockett Seagle, 86, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009, following a period of declining health. She was born in Rutherford County on October 5, 1922 and was a daughter of the late Oliver L. Melton, Sr. and Lola Long Melton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husbands, Ned R. Rockett and K. M. Seagle; brothers, Paul and David Melton; and by sisters, Elsie Whitehead, Eunice Toney, and Loree Hoare. Sarah retired from Evans Rexall Drug Store in Marion, NC after 28 years, and she was a member of Mount Home Baptist Church in Morganton. An avid gardener, Sarah was lovingly called Granny by her family and friends.Surviving are her sons, Gary K. Rockett of Nebo, Steve Rockett and Tommy Rockett and his wife, Harriet, all of Marion; a brother, Oliver L. Melton, Jr., of Morganton; sisters, Ruth Hahn and Ethel Greene both of Morganton, and Clara Humphries of Charlotte; grandchildren, Stephanie and Jefferson Rockett; and her dear friend, Bonnie Goldsmith, of Marion.Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Mount Home Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Gamble officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the church fellowship hall. Mrs. Seagle will be available for viewing from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Sossoman Funeral Home.
