Sarah Powell Holder

Sarah Powell Holder, 97, of Valdese Avenue, Morganton, NC, died Tuesday, February 13, 2008 at Grace Heights Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Burke County, NC on March 10, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Fonz Powell and Annie Farr Powell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Phifer Holder; brothers, Robert Powell and Alexander Powell; and sisters, Annie Lou Sain and Maggie Moody. Sarah retired from Broughton Hospital. Following her retirement she worked at Holiday Laundry for several years. She attended Calvary Baptist Church.Sarah is survived by her niece, Dorothy Marie Powell of the home; several other nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Floy Powell of Morganton; and special friends, Fuchsia Small of Morganton and Louise Pittman if Valdese.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
