Sarah Propst Cash

Sarah Propst Cash, 79, of Morganton, passed away following a series of illnesses on July 4, 2013. Sarah was born on March 3, 1934, in Burke County, to the late Mary Williams Propst and Dewey Forest Propst. She was a graduate of Morganton High School and then served in the U. S. Navy as a nursing assistant. She graduated from nursing school at Charlotte Memorial Hospital and then earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Sarah worked as a psychiatric nurse at Broughton Hospital until her retirement and continued working part-time as a nursing supervisor for Conserve group homes for mentally and physically disabled individuals.In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Cash; her brother, James Forest Propst of Southport, NC; and her niece, Lisa Granfield Soong of Ashburn, VA.Survivors include her sister, Martha Ann Propst of Chapel Hill, her sister-in-law, Jimi Carole Propst of Southport; nephews, James Forest Propst II and his wife, Margie of Southport and Dewey Propst and his children, Abigail and Andrew of Florence, SC; great-niece, Sabine Soong and great-nephew, Christopher Soong both of Ashburn VA; and a brother-in-law, Max Cash and his wife, Jane, of Morganton.The family will receive friends at Mrs. Cash’s home, 206 Williams Rd, Morganton, NC on Sunday, July 14, 2013 from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sarah’s name to Burke County Friends for Animals, PO Box 1884, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with arrangements.
