Scott Dwayne Staton, 48, of Morganton went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 12, 2018. Born in McDowell County, NC on July 29, 1969, he was the son of Junior Staton and wife, Judy, of Marion and Mitt Mildred McCreary and husband, Terry, of China Grove, NC. He was a member of Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Scott was a devoted father who loved his family dearly. He was an avid outdoorsman, Dallas Cowboys fan, and was looking forward to marrying his love, Susan Mackorell. Scott was always straight-forward and let you know how he felt. He was friendly to everyone and never met a stranger.
In addition to his parents, Scott is survived by his pride and joy, his son, Austin Staton and girlfriend, Brooke Holmes; daughters, Emma and Hannah Ferree; fiancée, Susan Mackorell; siblings, Larry Staton and wife, Barbara, of Spartanburg, SC, Denise Stamey of Bakersville, NC, and Steve Staton and wife, Erma, of Marion, NC; nephews and nieces, Chrissy Burton, Makya Crooks, Avery Staton, and Phoenix Crooks; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. with Revs. Andrew Parkey and Don Mitchell officiating. Military honors will be provided by the NC National Guard.
