Shawn B. Curtis, 57, of Morganton, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

Born in Burke County, NC on January 27, 1967, he was the son of the late Buford Venard Curtis and Norma Kay Reep Curtis.

Shawn was a member of Son Light Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir. He had worked at Southern Great Lakes Carbon, helped rebuild the dam at Lake James, and delivered flowers for Floral Expressions. Shawn was an avid Red Skins fan and loved NASCAR, Tennessee football, and the Texas Longhorns. He also loved to fish and be around people.

Shawn is survived by his sister, Cheryl Price; brothers, Dale and Nick Curtis; and four nephews, Curt Hoyle, Aaron H. Curtis, Cody Price, and Zack Curtis.

In addition to his parents, Shawn was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Betty Harmon Curtis.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, October 27, 2024 at Son Light Baptist Church. The memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. in the church with Pastor Michael Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

I graduated with Shawn. I’m sorry to hear of his passing and it makes me think about my own life. I wish I’d been more like him when I was young always goofing off, not taking life too seriously and just enjoying it in general. It seems that the class of 86 is passing from this world awfully quick. Once again, I am sorry to hear that he passed.
