Shelton Woody

Shelton Woody, 79, of Valdese, NC passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013 at his residence. Born in Yancey County, NC on August 13, 1933, he was the son of the late Rassie Woody and Ocie Randolph Woody. Shelton was a member and deacon of Pleasant View Baptist Church. He graduated from Drexel High School in 1951 and worked as a truck driver for Breeden Poultry for thirty-four years and Henredon Furniture for twelve years. After his retirement, he helped his son-in-law at Giovanni’s Pizza in Valdese. He was an avid fan of Winston Cup NASCAR racing.Shelton is survived by his wife of 57 years, Belinda McGalliard Woody of the home; a son, Micheal S. Woody of Valdese; a daughter, Marchalle Woody Causby and her husband, Randy, of Rutherford College, NC; a grandson, Casey McBrayer of Morganton; a great-grandson, Fletcher McBrayer; a brother, Sidney L. Woody and his wife, Peggy, of McLeansville, NC; sisters, Geraldine Rector of Morganton and Jean Eppley and her husband, Wayne, of Gastonia, NC; a step-granddaughter, Lauren Kerley and her husband, Jeremy, of Hudson, NC; a step-grandson, Justin Causby and his fiancée, Brandy Burrell, of Gastonia, NC; a step-great-grandson, Conner Kerley; his "grand girls," Ariana and Alina Burns; brothers-in-law, Earl Holder and Alvin Clarke both of Valdese; a sister-in-law, Delene Wilson and husband, Glen of Kodiak, TN; and seventeen nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Shelton was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Stella McGalliard.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Dr. Burt Wilbur and the Rev. Bruce Piercy officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
