Shirley B. Douglas

Shirley B. Douglas, 68, of Valdese, NC died Monday, May 16, 2011 in Myrtle Beach, SC. Born in Burke County, NC on July 31, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Clyde William Brown and Catherine Saunders Brown. Shirley was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She retired from Western Carolina Center after 30 years of dedicated service. She currently worked part-time for Blue Ridge Healthcare at both Grace and Valdese Hospitals. Shirley and her husband were both active members of the Valdese Lion’s Club.A loving and devoted, wife, sister, and aunt, Shirley is survived by her husband, Bobby Douglas of the home; sisters, Nancy Barrett and husband, Bill, of Mooresville, NC and Cathy Slick and husband, Glenn, of Marion, NC; a brother-in-law, Robert Cook and wife, Kay, of Drexel; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her sister, Peggy Cook, and her brother, Clyde A. Brown.A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 21, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Larry Cline officiating.
