Shirley Brittain Mitchell

Shirley Brittain Mitchell, 69, of Morganton Long Term Care died Sunday, July 02, 2006, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center following a period of declining health. She was born in Burke County, NC on May 11, 1937 and was a daughter of the late Harry Lee Brittain, Sr. and Lura Mae Whitener Brittain. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Howard L. Morgan, Sr. and Billy E. Lane; brothers, Raymond W. Brittain, Harry L. Brittain, Jr., and Colin L. Brittain; and a sister, Margaret N. Brittain.

Shirley was a loving mother to sons, Howard L. Morgan, Jr. and his wife, Claudia, and Scott E. Lane and his wife, Rita, and to her daughter, Jayne Morgan Stewart, and her husband, Bill, all of Morganton. Also surviving are grandchildren, Ryan Morgan and his wife, Sarah, Kyle Morgan, Christy Lane Sprouse and her husband, Victor, Michael E. Lane, and Janae K. Chung Stewart, and a sister, Virginia B. Rogers, all of Morganton.

The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 4, 2006 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Reverends Jerry Gamble and David Orders officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Alpine Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
