Shirley Coates Davis, 74, of Morganton passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020. Born in Madison County, NC on January 31, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Neal Coates and Roxie Rice Coates. Shirley was a member of Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. She was a selfless woman who was involved in her community and would help anyone. She enjoyed making banana pudding and watching Duke basketball or Braves baseball.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Shirley is survived by her husband, Charles Davis of the home; son, Chuck Davis and wife, Melissa; grandsons, Tyler Davis and wife, Lauren, and Lawson Davis; great-grandchildren, Emma Kate Davis and Jameson Davis; brother, Larry Coates; sisters, Hazel Norman and Lucy Cannon; numerous special nieces and nephews; and a special canine companion, Oliver.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Coates; and a sister, Betty Jean Campbell.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m., Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Rev. Darvy Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
