Shirley Oakley Ballew

Shirley Oakley Ballew, 66, of Morganton died Saturday, June 30, 2018.  Born in Pittsylvania County, VA on July 23, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Buddy Oakley and Eunice Wade Oakley Shotwell.  Shirley was a member of the First Baptist Church Deaf Ministry.  She worked at the Morganton Post Office for 25 years.  She was the first deaf person to get a job at that post office.

Mrs. Ballew is survived by her husband, Fred Richard Ballew of the home; son, Frank Ballew of Morganton; granddaughter, Katie Gwaltney; brother, Wayne Nelson Oakley and wife, Kathy, of Charlotte; and sister, Cathy Romulo of Roxboro.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by brothers, Steve and Bobby Oakley; and step-father, Les Shotwell.

A memorial service for Mrs. Ballew will be held at a later date.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
