Shirley Omagene Smith

Shirley Omagene Smith, 76, of Morganton died Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the home of her sister, Betty Taylor, after a lengthy illness. Shirley was born in Avery County, NC on August 29, 1935, and was a daughter of the late William and Myrtle Garland Smith of Pineola, Avery County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Garland Hall. Shirley was a member of the Pineola Baptist Church. She was an angel unaware and loved by all who knew her.Shirley is survived by sisters, Theresa S. Johnson of Spruce Pine, Betty S. and Charles Taylor of Morganton, Lucy S. Stokes, Life Care Center of Banner Elk, and Gail S. Burleson of Crossnore: brothers, Jim and Norma Smith of Spruce Pine, Ray H. and Margie Garland of Raleigh, and George and Vivian Garland of White Pine, TN; and a number of beloved nieces and nephews.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 13, 2012 at Pineola Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Aldridge officiating. Burial will follow in the Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Pineola. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
