Shirley Powell Tilley, 74, of Drexel, NC died Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Duke University Medical Center following a brief illness. Born February 12, 1940 in Burke County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Robert Coy Powell and Annie Mae Shuffler Powell. Shirley was a long time active member of High Peak Baptist Church. She worked for many years as a computer operator at many area companies and municipalities. Shirley loved going to the beach and traveling.
She is survived by her husband, Mike Tilley of the home; a son, Chris Tilley and wife, Paula, of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Addison and Blair Tilley; a brother, Jerry Powell and wife, Ann of Connelly Springs, NC; a sister, Audrey Perkins of Morganton; and her feline companion, Joseph.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by brothers, Bobby and Jackie Powell; and sisters, Carol McKinley and Gilda Arney.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 14, 2014 at High Peak Baptist Church with Dr. Kevin Purcell officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to High Peak Baptist Church, 3073 High Peak Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.

It has been almost 10 years since you passed and I miss your craziness and laughter so much. Now that Mike is gone you are both reunited in Heaven. Howard is up there waiting for me, then we can resume all the fun we had. You and Mike were wonderful friends who made our lives so much brighter.
