Staff Sgt. Wayne Lynn Scott, 64, of Morganton, NC died Monday, April 20, 2015. Born in Burke County, NC on September 15, 1950, he was the son of the late Frank Edward Scott and Bertha Elizabeth Dale Scott. Staff Sgt. Scott was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Army Reserve for 25 years.
A loving father and fine brother and uncle, Staff Sgt. Scott is survived by his daughter, Ginger Lynne Scott and her spouse, Richard Hall of TX; a grandson, Briar Metcalf; a brother, Allan Scott and his wife, Joyce, of Marion, NC; a sister, Robin Davis and her husband, Jim, of Monroe, NC; a niece, Nancy Solomon; and a number of other nephews and nieces. He also loved all of his dirt-racing family.
In addition to his parents, Staff Sgt. Scott was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Scott and Richard Scott.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Roger Brackett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by NC National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.
