Stanley Phillip Melott

Stanley Phillip Melott, 79, died Saturday, November 3, 2012 at his home following a period of declining health. He was born in Wetzel County, West Virginia on August 6, 1933 and was a son of the late Mack Bud Melott and Clarissa Violet Sarver Melott. In addition to his parents, Mr. Melott was preceded in death by sons, Ryan P. and Steve A. Melott; brothers, Arvel and Martin Melott; and by sisters, Bessie Beckett and Rosa Huggin.He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who treasured spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid camper and enjoyed the outdoors. He was retired from Crest Excavating and was a member of Sunrise Independent Baptist Church.Stanley is survived by his wife, Doris Irene Ruble Melott of the home; sons, Mark E. Melott and wife. Lora, of Valdese and Bruce A. Melott and wife, Ann, of Morganton; daughters, Kathy Lynne Carter and husband, George, of Hickory and Christine M. Morales and husband, Joseph, of Drexel; a brother, Fred Melott of Valdese; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Melott of Connelly Springs; sixteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2012, at Sunrise Independent Baptist Church with Rev. Craig Price officiating. Burial will follow at Park Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. At other times the family will be at the home on Valley Trail, Morganton.Memorial contributions may be made to Sunrise Independent Baptist Church, 1631 Jamestown Road, Morganton, NC 28655.
