Sterling “David” Ward, Jr.

Sterling “David” Ward, Jr., age 71, of Bethlehem, went home to be with his Lord and Savior unexpectedly on Thursday, April 18, 2024.

He was born September 17, 1952, in Catawba County, and was the son of the late Sterling Ward and Dorothy Massagee Ward, of Hickory, NC.

David was a long-distance truck driver with Overnight Transportation for 36 years and a graduate of St Stephens High School. He retired at the age of 55 and had many years to enjoy his various hobbies including fishing, gardening, canning and golfing. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, aggravating/joking around with his many friends, and helping others.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 52 years, Diane Ward of the home, his son, Shawn Ward (Karla) of Denver, NC, and his daughter, Jennifer Hatton (Donald) of Taylorsville, NC, and many friends.

A memorial service honoring David’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Calvary Baptist Church of Newton, NC with the Rev. Shawn Milburn officiating. The family will receive friends just before the service at 2 p.m.
