Mr. Sterling Walker, 81, of Morganton, NC went to his Heavenly Home on Sunday, January 1, 2012. He was born May 6, 1930 in Burke County to the late Pink and Tessie Walker.Sterling retired from Rutherford Electric after many years of service. Along with his wife, he dedicated his remaining years as owner and operator of Walnut Hollow, a community grocery store on Hwy 64.Sterling is survived by his wife, Vergie Walker of the home; his son, Stephen James Walker and wife, Pat, of Morganton; a granddaughter, Lisa Bolick and husband, Bobby; great-grandchildren, Stephen Bolick, and Brittany Bolick; step-grandchildren, Andrew and Smokye Williams; a brother, Raymond Walker of Morganton; sisters, Viola Walsh of Valdese and Beulah Williams of Hickory; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Sterling was preceded in death by his brothers, William, Robert, and Edward Walker; and his sister, Lessie Morrow.The funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Donald Lovelace officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until noon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times the family will be at the home. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
