Steve Gettys

Steve Gettys, 69, of Morganton, NC died Friday, May 6, 2016. Born in Rutherford County on July 16, 1946, he was a son of the late Roscoe Gettys and Vertie Lee Waters Gettys.
Mr. Gettys was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving on the USS Kearsarge and USS Yorktown. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather with a heart for the Lord. Mr. Gettys was a member of Mt. Home Baptist Church and was the owner of Steve’s Body Works. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter #43, Naval Fleet Reserve, and Vietnam Veterans Association.
Mr. Gettys is survived by his wife, Dolores Gettys of the home and sons, Chris Gettys and wife, Tracy of Hickory and Jody Gettys of Morganton. He is also survived by grandchildren, Caden Gettys and his mother, Jamie Gettys and Lilly Gettys and her mother, Misty Valencia; brother, Richard Gettys of Morganton; sisters, Martha Franklin and husband, Steve and Margaret Gettys all of Morganton; sister-in-law, Martha Gettys of Morganton; and a number of nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gettys was preceded in death by brothers, J. W. Gettys and Charles R. Gettys.
The family will receive friends Monday, May 9, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Home Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy and Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
