Steve Oneal Crump, 85, of Morganton, NC, peacefully went home to be with the Lord Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Born in Burke County, NC on December 15, 1939, he was the son of the late John Thomas Crump and Estelle Mamie Mull Crump.
Steve's family was the center of his universe. He cherished his role as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always putting the needs of his loved ones before his own. His selflessness knew no bounds. He was an avid gardener, herbalist, and rockhound, finding beauty and wonder in the natural world around him. Steve was a true timberman at heart. He took great pleasure in working with wood, creating pieces that were not only functional but also works of art. Many sought him out for the wisdom he always shared. He also took great pleasure in listening to country music.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Steve A. Crump (Carol), Karen Sherrill (Eric), Harold Crump (Tammy), and Sam Crump (Cindy); grandchildren, Shandara Buff (John), Leah Rhodes (Jon), and Dakota Crump (Emily); great-grandchildren, Americus Evans (Cody), Hunter Evans (Danielle), Eli Evans, Shelbie Anne Rhodes, Easton Crump, and Grayson Crump; great-great-grandchild, River Mae; siblings, Truette Crump, Joe Crump, Naomi Cannon, and Ronnie Crump; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Jean B. Crump; grandson, Drew Millwood; and five brothers, Dwain, Jerry, Bruce, Kenneth, and Tommy Crump.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Sossoman Funeral Home.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
